Horned Frogs post second-best aggregate score in program history
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The fourth-ranked TCU women's rifle team turned in one of the best performances in program history in picking up a 4,730-4,685 win at No. 5 Alaska on Sunday. The squad's aggregate score as well as the smallbore tally (2,350) are the second-best all-time.
Stephanie Grundsoee, Elizabeth Marsh, Nina Schuett and Grace Taschuk posted career highs in the match, while Kristen Hemphill and Abigail Gordon tied season-highs.
The Horned Frogs boasted the top four shooters in the match and six of the top 10. For the fourth straight match Grundsoee paced the field in both disciplines, posting a career-high aggregate tally of 1,192. Marsh matched her career high with an 1,184 to finish second. Hemphill sat third with an 1,176 and Schuett in fourth with a career-high 1,175 aggregate. Gordon matched her season-high and finished seventh with an 1,171. Taschuk sat ninth with an 1,170.
TCU set the tone in smallbore, building a commanding lead in the match, 2,350-2,325. Grundsoee fired a career-high 594, followed by a career-high 590 from Marsh. Hemphill shot a 583, while Taschuk established a career-high with a 583. While not factoring in the team score, Schuett finished sixth after shooting a 581.
Five of seven shooters in air rifle posted a score of 593 or better. Grundsoee led the field with a 598. Gordon matched her career-high with a 595, followed by Marsh's 594. Hemphill matched her season-high with a 593 to account for the team score. Schuett set a career-high with a 594.
The Horned Frogs are off to a 4-0 start this season. They will head to Charleston, S.C., to take on The Citadel on Saturday.
