Team Notes
* Today's game marked the beginning of Gary Patterson's 20th season as head coach at TCU.
* TCU opened its season against Iowa State for the first time since 1998, in Patterson's first game as a Horned Frog. He was TCU's defensive coordinator in its 31-21 win in Ames.
* The Horned Frogs had won their last 18 home openers, tied for the nation's eighth-longest streak entering the game.
* TCU dropped a home opener for the first time since Patterson's first game as head coach in 2001.
* The Horned Frogs are 89-25 in home games in 20 seasons under Patterson as head coach.
* The Horned Frogs are now 15-5 in season openers under Patterson and 75-40-9 overall in openers.
* TCU's six-game winning streak in season openers was snapped.
* Patterson is now 6-4 as a head coach versus Iowa State.
* TCU's Sept. 26 season opener was its latest to begin a campaign since a 13-0 win at Arkansas on Oct. 2, 1943.
* The Horned Frogs opened their season with a conference game for the first time since a 26-3 win at New Mexico in 2008.
*TCU began its season at home with a conference opponent for the first time since facing SMU in 1979.

* Sacks by Garret Wallow and Parker Workman gave TCU at least one sack in 80 of its last 83 games.
* TCU scored for the 346th consecutive game. It's the nation's second-longest current streak and fourth all-time in NCAA history. The Horned Frogs haven't been blanked since Nov. 16, 1991, at Texas (32-0).
* TCU's team captains were Taye Barber, Trevon Moehrig, Austin Myers and Garret Wallow. Wallow was on the field for the coin toss.
* TCU wore a white helmet with a purple jersey and white pants.
Individual Notes
Offense
* Max Duggan, who entered the game in the second half, completed 16-of-19 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns in just two quarters of action.
* Duggan's three touchdown passes tied a career high, set last year against SMU.
* True freshman Quentin Johnston had a 37-yard touchdown reception for his first career scoring grab. It was his second collegiate catch after a 13-yard snag on the final play of the first quarter. He finished with two receptions for 50 yards.
* Johnston's scoring grab gave Matthew Downing his first career touchdown pass.
* Taye Barber, who tied for team-best honors with five receptions for 82 yards, had a 27-yard third-quarter touchdown catch for his first scoring grab since 2018.
* Emari Demercado had a career-best five receptions for 42 yards. The five catches equaled his career total entering the game.
* Artayvious Lynn had career-best totals of three receptions for 62 yards, including a career-long 48-yard touchdown.
* Mikel Barkley had his first two career receptions, totaling 14 yards.
* JD Spielman, in his first game as a Horned Frog, had two catches for 16 yards.
* Darwin Barlow had a career long 16-yard carry as part of 21 yards rushing.
Defense
* La'Kendrick Van Zandt's 24-yard fumble return for a touchdown was TCU's first score in that manner since Jawuan Johnson against Oklahoma State in 2018.
* Garret Wallow had a sack on Van Zandt's fumble return. It gave the senior linebacker 7 1/2 sacks in his career, second among active Horned Frogs (Corey Bethley, 8.5).
* Wallow totaled a team-best nine tackles, including two for loss, to go with his sack and a forced fumble.
* Dee Winters totaled a career-best eight tackles to go with a pass breakup.
* Parker Workman had his second career sack and, dating back to last season, his second consecutive game with a sack.
Special Teams
* JD Spielman had a 17-yard punt return on his first touch as a Horned Frog. He finished with two returns for 27 yards.
* Tony Wallace had his first career kickoff returns, returning three attempts for 60 yards.
