Preseason pick is highest since joining the league
FORT WORTH – In a vote of league coaches, the TCU women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Big 12 this season. It's the highest preseason pick for the program since joining the league in 2012.
The Horned Frogs return 10 of 11 starters and 18 letterwinnners from last year's NCAA Tournament squad. They are led by preseason all-conference picks Yazmeen Ryan and Messiah Bright. Additionally, they return starting goalkeeper Emily Alvarado who has started 36 games over the last two seasons.
Offensively, the Frogs return 90% of their scoring. Bright (12 goals, 6 assists) turned in just the third 30-point season in school history. Ryan posted career highs in goals (7), assists (9) and points (23), while Gracie Brian (9 goals, 4 assists, 22 points) and Grace Collins (3 goals, 8 assists, 14 points) had breakout freshmen campaigns.
On defense, the Frogs a wealth of experience. Brandi Peterson has started all 43 games in her career, while Chaylyn Hubbard has played in and started 42 contests. Tatum Condrey made 13 starts as part of 20 appearances in 2019. Additionally, the Frogs are looking for a healthy return of seniors Tijana Duricek (46 games played) and Ariana Owens (29 games played).
