Brown earns spot on first team
FORT WORTH – Sophomores Alejandro Aguilera and Justin Gums and junior Trevor Brown were honored on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team, the league announced Monday.
Brown earned a spot on the first team with a GPA of 3.20 or higher. The finance-real estate major shot a season-best 2-under 214 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational in September. In the three tournaments played, Brown, a native of Austin, Texas, shot par or better four times and finished with a season stroke average of 73.78.
Aguilera and Gums each had a GPA of 3.00-3.19 and were named to the second team. Aquilera's best performance of the season came at the Texas Intercollegiate, where he finished 19th at 8-over 224. It was the second-career Big 12 award for the Madrid, Spain native who was on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team last season.
Gums was TCU's top finisher at the Hartford Hawks Invitational with a season-best score of 4-under 213 and finished tied for ninth. The economics major from Lodi, Calif., recorded back-to-back scores of 4-under 68 at Pebble Beach at the Carmel Cup. Gums was second on the team with a scoring average of 72.86.
