Horned Frogs open their spring season Sunday
FORT WORTH -- The TCU women's golf team opens its spring season Sunday when it begins play at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R.
The Event
TCU is playing in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic for the 10th straight year and 15th time in the last 16 seasons. The three day, 54-hole event will be held at the 6,203-yard Rio Mar Country Club River Course. TCU's 15 overall appearances are tied for the third-most in the 18-year history of the tournament. The Horned Frogs' best performance in the event was a tie for third in 2008. TCU was sixth last year with Greta Bruner, Sabrina Iqbal and Valeria Pacheco tying for 18th individually.
The Field
In addition to TCU and host Purdue, this year's 15-team Lady Puerto Rico Classic field includes Augusta, East Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland, NC State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech.

Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com. Sunday and Monday's opening two rounds will have a 6 a.m. CST shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will be a 7:30 a.m. CST shotgun start.

The Lineup
TCU's lineup will be Sabrina Iqbal, Jennie Park, Grace Do, Trinity King and Valeria Pacheco. Four of the five players are freshmen or sophomores. Do is the lone junior.
Iqbal (71.5) and freshmen Park (72.1) and King (72.4) are all on pace to set TCU season records for stroke average.
Iqbal, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif., had three top-10 finishes in five fall tournaments. She has shot a combined 4-under-par over her last three events. Iqbal has finished in the top 20 in 13 of her 16 career tournaments.
Park was the November Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month as she closed the fall with a 5-under 211 to tie for fifth at the Battle at the Beach in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
Do, a junior from Coppell, Texas, has played in all but one tournament over her three years at TCU.
King has a pair of top-20 results and two sub-70 rounds this season.
Pacheco tied a school record with an 8-under 64 at the Jim West Challenge. She has a 75.7 stroke average.
Remember When
At the 2007 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, TCU's Valentine Derry, playing in her first collegiate tournament, earned medalist honors. She shot a 5-under 67 in the first round. It remains tied for the sixth- and eighth-best score all-time for first rounds and all rounds, respectively, at the event.
