RS-Freshman tossed 2-hit shutout Saturday
FORT WORTH - TCU redshirt-freshman Johnny Ray has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for his performance at Minnesota on Saturday night. The honor is the first of his career and the first for the Horned Frogs this season.
After issuing a one-out walk in the first, Ray retired the next 21 Minnesota batters he faced. He threw TCU's first complete-game shutout since May 2018. The junior retired 25-of-29 batters faced in the victory. Only one batter reached second base in the game for the Gophers and he never faced more than four batters in an inning.
On the season, Ray is 1-0 with a 0.66 ERA in 13 2/3 innings of work. He has racked up 14 strikeouts and issued just five walks while limiting opponents to a .093 batting average.
