
14 Horned Frogs Tabbed All-Big 12, Coleman Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year

TCU has produced a Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in three of the last four seasons
IRVING, Texas -- Fourteen TCU football players have received All-Big 12 recognition from the conference head coaches, highlighted by defensive end Khari Coleman selected as the Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year.
Coleman is the third Horned Frog in the last four seasons to be a Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year, joining Ross Blacklock (2017) and Ar'Darius Washington (2019). Blacklock now plays for the Houston Texans. Coleman tops all freshmen nationally and is fifth in the FBS for all players with 15.0 tackles for loss. He has totaled 33 stops on the season with 3.0 sacks.
Cornerback Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, safety Trevon Moehrig and linebacker Garret Wallow were first-team selections, while defensive end Ochaun Mathis and punter Jordy Sandy were second-team honorees. Named honorable mention were Coleman, Washington, offensive lineman Steve Avila, wide receiver Taye Barber, defensive tackle Terrell Cooper, return specialist Derius Davis, wide receiver Quentin Johnston, offensive tackle T.J. Storment and safety La'Kendrick Van Zandt.
Moehrig and Wallow are first-team selections for the second straight season. Additionally, Wallow was Honorable-Mention Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Moehrig is tied for second in the Big 12 with 11 passes defended. He has two interceptions and nine PBUs while placing third on the Horned Frogs with 47 tackles. Wallow tops the Big 12 and is 16th nationally with 90 tackles, including 9.0 for loss with 3.0 sacks. His three forced fumbles are tied for the Big 12 lead and fifth in the country. Hodges-Tomlinson leads the Big 12 and is second nationally with 13 pass breakups.
Mathis is first in the Big 12 and tied for second nationally with 9.0 sacks, just 1.0 off the lead. His 14.0 tackles for loss are 11th in the FBS. Additionally, he is fourth on TCU with 46 stops. Sandy is third in the Big 12 with a 41.0 average, the highest by a Horned Frog since 2012. Twenty-four of his 57 punts have gone inside the 20-yard line, including 10 inside the 10, with just three touchbacks.
Avila has started at three different positions (center, right guard, right tackle) on the offensive line. Barber has a team-best 31 receptions and is second with 318 yards receiving and two touchdown catches. Cooper has 23 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, with a sack while starting the last nine games. Davis has two punt returns for touchdowns and tops the Big 12 and is fourth nationally with a 14.5-yard average.
Johnston is one of three FBS freshmen this season, and the first in the Big 12 since 2014,with consecutive 100-yard receiving games. His 22.1 yards per reception is on pace to break a TCU season record for players with at least 20 catches. He has a team-best 487 receiving yards and is second with 22 receptions and two touchdowns. Storment has started the last seven games at left tackle. Van Zandt has taken part in three takeaways with two interceptions and a fumble recovery he returned 24 yards for a touchdown. He is sixth on TCU with 43 tackles, including 5.5 for loss. Washington has totaled 37 stops and five pass breakups.
