Silins, Sadlowski Earn NCAA B Cuts in Season Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo — TCU's men's and women's swimming and diving teams began the 2020-21 season against one of the top teams in the country at Missouri. The men fell, 183.50-113.50, while the women were defeated 193-100.
NCAA B Cuts
Sophomore Janis Silins earned an NCAA B cut in the 100 breast after clocking a 54.10 en route to a first-place finish. The Valmiera, Latvia native owns both breaststroke school records. Last season, Silins' 100 breast time (52.83) at the conference meet broke Ford Story's Big 12 Championship time from 2016. Silins' 200 breast mark (1:54.63) bested former TCU great and Olympian Edgar Crespo's record from 2012 that won a Conference USA title.
Fellow sophomore Piotr Sadlowski also notched an NCAA B cut. The Polish pistol finished the 100 fly in 47.34. During the 2019-20 season, Sadlowski collected two B cuts in the 100 and 200 fly en route to setting the 100 fly school record.
One-two Punch
Silins and Hugh McPherson placed first and second, respectively, in both the 100 and 200 breast. The duo accounted for 26 breaststroke points.
Outstanding Horned Frog Debuts
Arkansas transfer Emma Hultquist nearly took the women's 200 free, placing second by just 0.09 seconds. Her mark (1:48.88) places her fifth in TCU's record book. The Rockwall, Texas native also got second in the 100 free (51.95).
In the men's 1000, freshman Charlie Brennig swam a 9:30.28 which ranks No. 7 on TCU's all-time records.
Fellow freshman Cayla Prophater also broke into TCU's all-times list at No. 9 in the women's 1000, recording a 10:21.75.
Top-10
Dusan Babic cracked TCU's top 10 in the 200 IM after placing second with a time of 1:49.27, good for seventh. The sophomore also placed second in the 200 free (1:37.38) and posted a collegiate-best time in the 100 free (44.54), remaining ninth on TCU's all-times list.
