
Mokaleng Becomes Five-Time All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – Derrick Mokaleng and the 4x400m relay team each earned Second-Team All-America honors Wednesday in the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
DERRICK MOKELANG
Entering the event seeded 13th, Mokaleng finished ninth and earned Second Team All-America honors. The junior ran his second-fastest time of the season, 45.55 seconds. He finished fourth in his heat, and missed advancing to the finals by .01 seconds. Mokaleng became a five-time All-American about two hours later in the 4x400m relay.
4X400M RELAY
The relay team of Jostyn Andrews, Tinotenda Matiyenga, Glenn Bender and Mokaleng finished ninth to earn Second Team All-America honors. The Big 12 Champions finished third in their heat with a time of 3:05.01.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Mapaya, the indoor and outdoor champion of the Big 12, enters the triple jump competition with the third best jump of the 24-person field. His school-record jump of 16.64m (54-7.25) came at the National Relay Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Mapaya earned All-America status last season as a freshman after finishing fifth (16.42m) at the outdoor championships. Mapaya finished third nationally at the indoor championships in each of the last two seasons. He will attempt to become a four-time All-American on Friday.
- Longmire, the Big 12 indoor champion and outdoor runner-up, will attempt to become a three-time All-American on Wednesday. The junior was fourth at the indoor championship and as a sophomore at San Jose State in 2018, finished 14th in the outdoor season. Her season best of 6.39m (20-11.75) came at the Jim Click Shootout this year.
