
TCU Solid in Opening Round of Regional

Frogs begin second round at 7:30 a.m.
AUSTIN, Texas – Competing in its 30th consecutive NCAA Regional, the TCU men's golf team ended the first round in third place Monday at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Under perfect golf conditions, sunny with no wind and 80 degree temperatures, the Horned Frogs shot 4-under 280. They were just two shots behind the leaders, Pepperdine (-6) and Texas (-6), but more importantly, 10 shots better than sixth place Marquette (+6) and USC (+6). The top five teams after three rounds in Austin will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
With an experienced lineup of all seniors, three shot at or even par. David Ravetto led the way at 4-under 67 and just one bogey on the day. It was the sixth time in his last seven rounds that he's shot under par. Ravetto is tied for second place, one stroke behind the leader, Pierceson Coody (-5) of Texas, and two ahead of Big 12 Champion Hayden Springer, who shot 2-under 69.
Stefano Mazzoli, who graduated on Saturday, shot even-par 71 and is tied for 13th place.
Competing in his first tournament in two months for TCU, Turner MacLean shot over par on just two holes to finish 2-over 73 and is tied for 29th. Tristin Fisher is tied for 46th at 5-over 76.
