Brown registers two hits
HOUSTON -- TCU dropped its final game in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic, falling to Rice 12-2 Sunday night at Minute Maid Park.
The Rundown
Rice opened up a 3-0 lead in the second. A pair of singles to open the inning had the Owls in business. With the bases loaded and one out, a hit batter and a walk gave Rice a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly capped the scoring in the inning.
The Frogs got a run back in the third. Hunter Wolfe tripled with one out and scored on a Porter Brown base knock to pull within two, 3-1.
Rice gifted the Frogs a run in the fifth. With two on and two out, Alex Isola grounded to the shortstop. He unleashed a throw into the camera well allowing Brown to score to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
The Owls responded with a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning. Two extra-base hits accounted for the three runs as Rice opened up a 6-2 lead. A six-run sixth inning broke the game open. With two outs, the Owls pushed across five runs, four of which were unearned following a dropped fly ball.
Jared Janczak (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits.
