Women's Swim & Dive Finishes Fourth in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – TCU swimming and diving wrapped up competition at the 2019 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday where the women's team placed fourth and the men's team finished third.

TEAM FINISH
In only its first year under the James Winchester regime, the women's team took a major step forward with its fourth-place finish in the team standings. The last time the women's team finished fourth at the conference meet was the 2013-2014 season. The Horned Frogs scored 474 points, defeating Iowa State.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS
Freshman Hugh McPherson had one of the standout performances on the day in the men's 200 breast. In the championship finals, McPherson recorded a NCAA "B" cut of 1:58.28 and finished third. In school history, his time ranks second behind TCU great Edgar Crespo. Ian Bennett also reached the championship finals and finished seventh overall.

In the men's 1650 free championship finals, Dayne Odendaal added another third-place finish following his 400 IM bronze medal from Friday. Rhory Legendre and Kevin Chao added fourth and fifth-place finishes in the event as well.

Kiki Rice and Madison Ibrahim both reached the women's 200 back championship finals where they finished fifth and eighth. Rice's time of 1:58.53 is the second fastest in school history.

Three Horned Frogs reached the men's 200 back championship finals where they placed fifth through seventh. Brendan Barry led TCU with a personal-best 1:45.32, followed by Radu Duican at 1:45.49 and Kade Knoch at 1:46.01. Barry and Duican's times will move them up to fourth and fifth in TCU history.

In the women's 200 breast championship finals, Lauren Halliburton placed fifth with a time of 2:17.59. Her prelim time of 2:16.31 ranks third in program history.

Senior Micaela Roemer added one last championship final appearance to her career on Saturday, placing seventh in the women's 200 fly.

TCU had a trio of Frogs reach the men's 200 fly championship finals. Freshman Kade Knoch led the team with a sixth-place time of 1:47.70, the third-fastest in school history. Michael Chwaluk and Tommy Thach followed with seventh and eighth place finishes.

Jackson Boersma reached the men's 100 free championship finals where he finished eighth.

ON THE BOARDS
In the women's platform dive, Isabella Ashdown reached the "A" finals where she finished fifth with a score of 218.50.

UP NEXT
Ashdown and Connie Deighton will represent TCU at the NCAA Diving Zones in Austin, Texas, scheduled for March 11-13. After that meet, TCU will send a group of athletes to the CSCAA National Invitational Championship in Cleveland, Ohio, scheduled for March 14-16.
