FORT WORTH, Texas – Owen Aschieris and Alex Robinson have been named Academic All-Big 12.
The two TCU men's basketball players were among the 34 student-athletes that earned the honor Thursday. Aschieris and Robinson were on the second team, which features 14 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 to 3.19.
Aschieris, a native of San Diego, Calif, is majoring in communication studies in his first season with the Horned Frogs. The sophomore has appeared in nine games for TCU.
Robinson, who was a Preseason All-Big 12 candidate, is leading the conference with 7.1 assists per game and is averaging 13.1 points. The Fort Worth native has already earned his degree in communication studies and is working on a master's degree in business supply chain management.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
TCU has had seven different Academic All-Big 12 selections in the three years that Jamie Dixon has been head coach.
