Isola hits TCU’s first home run of the season
FORT WORTH – No. 16 TCU took advantage of a pair off errors to score nine unearned runs en route to a 12-4 victory over Abilene Christian Wednesday night at Lupton Stadium. Alex Isola collected the Horned Frogs' first home run of the season.
The Rundown
After falling behind on a two-out solo home run in the second, TCU responded with a five-spot in the bottom of the frame. Johnny Rizer doubled and scored the tying run on a two-out error. TCU made the error hurt as Josh Watson and Austin Henry each tallied a two-run single to give the Frogs a 5-1 lead.
The Wildcats closed the gap to 5-3 with a couple of unearned runs of their own in the fourth, but again, the Frogs put up a run in the bottom of the frame to keep a comfortable lead. With two in scoring position, Watson grounded out to the right side to make it a 6-3 game.
In the sixth, the Frogs scored four more times to reach double-figures for the second straight game. Hunter Wolfe led off the inning with an infield single. A passed ball with one out brought Wolfe home. With two outs, Alex Isola launched a three-run blast to left center for a 10-3 lead.
Two more runs came home in the seventh on a Wolfe double to left center. ACU scored its final run in the eighth on a passed ball.
On the mound, Haylen Green allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits in 3 2/3 innings. The bullpen combination of Spencer Arrighetti (1-0), Dalton Brown, Augie Mihlbauer, James Notary, Dawson Barr and Cal Coughlin limited the Wildcats to an unearned run on one hit. They tallied seven strikeouts.
