SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – TCU senior Jordan Moore has been named one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Lisa Leslie Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Friday.
Named after the three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its second year recognizes the top centers in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
Moore has taken her game to another level during her senior season, leading the Horned Frogs to an 18-6 overall record and 8-5 mark in the Big 12 Conference. She is one of just two players in the NCAA currently averaging at least 15.5 points, 2.5 blocks and shooting over 58.0 percent for the year, along with fellow Leslie Award finalist Teaira McCowan of Mississippi State.
A Round Rock, Texas, native, Moore leads TCU with an average of 15.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game and a blistering 58.4 field-goal percentage this season. She also tops the Big 12 with 55 total blocks and 2.29 rejections per game.
Moore has recorded a double-double in five of TCU's last seven games and ranks third in the league with eight total this year. She is also one of just four Big 12 players with nine or more 20-point performances and currently stands in ninth all-time on TCU's career scoring chart with 1,334 points over her four years in Fort Worth. Moore also ranks third all-time at TCU in career blocks (219) and fourth in rebounds (791).
With a 58.4 field goal percentage this season, Moore is on pace to shatter the previous single-season record at TCU of 57.0 percent set by Kathleen Olson during the 1985-86 campaign.
A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.
The winner of the 2019 Lisa Leslie Center Award will be revealed in partnership with the WBCA during the 2019 Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida. Additional awards being presented and recognized at the WBCA Convention include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award, the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard Award, the Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award and the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award. Also being awarded is the Wade Trophy, the sport's oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award which is presented annually by the WBCA's community of coaches to the best player in college women's basketball.
Last season, A'ja Wilson of South Carolina was named the inaugural winner of the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award.
