Junior earns second honor for October
IRVING, Texas – TCU equestrian's Raegan Rast has been named the Big 12 Fences Rider of the Month for October, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The honor is her second one for the month as she was recognized by the NCEA last week.
"Last month, four of Reagan's five wins came at away competitions, which is incredibly impressive," TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield said. "Raegan has become a consistent competitor both in her confidence and accuracy. She reads horses well and understands how to get the horse to perform to the best of its ability, which has led to her success."
This is the third Rider of the Month honor Rast has earned in the previous three months of competition dating back to last season when she was recognized by the Big 12 for her showing in March, the first time she was awarded by the Big 12.
Rast had an incredibly successful October, riding to a record of 5-0 in the month, improving her season tally to 6-0. She picked up four of her victories on unfamiliar horses, winning from California to Alabama by an average margin of nine points. Her most impressive victory of the season came in TCU's last outing, as she downed Auburn's two-time All-American Taylor St. Jacques, 82-81 on Neto.
The month also saw the junior winning her 20th career matchup in an 82-80 victory against SMU on Phia. Rast was also named the TCU Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 23 after her 3-0 weekend at Auburn.
The honor marks the first time in the 2019-20 season a Horned Frog has been awarded Rider of the Month by the Big 12. It is also the second time Rast has received conference recognition.
