TCU true freshman led the Horned Frogs to a win over Texas
FORT WORTH -- The Davey O'Brien Award has announced TCU true freshman Max Duggan as its National Quarterback of the Week for his performance in this past Saturday's 37-27 win over Texas.
Presented annually to the nation's top quarterback, the Davey O'Brien Award is named after the TCU great who won the 1938 Heisman Trophy en route to leading the Horned Frogs to their second national championship in four seasons.
Duggan was 19 of 27 in the air for a career-high 273 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Horned Frogs in rushing with 72 yards on 13 carries, including an 11-yard touchdown with 1:59 to play to seal the victory.
A Council Bluffs, Iowa, native, Duggan is the first TCU quarterback to lead the team in rushing in consecutive contests since Kenny Hill in the 2017 Big 12 Championship Game and Valero Alamo Bowl. Duggan also became the first TCU signal caller to throw for 250 yards and multiple scores and rush for at least 70 yards and a touchdown in the same game since Trevone Boykin in 2015 versus West Virginia.
Duggan has thrown for 1,147 yards, the first true freshman to top 1,000 yards in a season in the Gary Patterson head coaching era. He has 11 touchdown passes and just one interception in 169 attempts.
Additionally, Duggan was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week and a Manning Award Star of the Week.
