Dear Horned Frogs Fans:
FROM MY DESK
Welcome to the first edition of a new monthly update that will arrive straight from my desk. I look forward to communicating with you at the start of each month on some of the happenings around TCU Athletics. We'll cover what you need to know and provide insights into some behind-the-scenes items you might not be aware of. We hope you find this informative and entertaining.
UNDEFEATED
While you know about football's season-opening victory, a special shout out needs to go to head coach Eric Bell and his soccer program on a great 5-0-1 start to the season! Included in that victory total are a pair of wins over SEC opponents (Alabama, Missouri) and an ACC victory (Pittsburgh). We continue on the road tonight at Little Rock with our next home match being a week from Sunday, Sept. 16, versus Butler at 1 p.m.
NEW HORNED FROGS SHINING
Across the board, I believe we have the most talented freshman class of student-athletes we've ever had. It was great to see two of them recognized hours apart Monday. Football's Derius Davis was named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week after his two touchdowns, via receiving and a punt return, while Volleyball's élan McCall was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week for the second straight week.
IRON SKILLET AND BUCKEYES
It's great to have our next two "away" games as basically home games here in the Metroplex. We look forward to seeing many of you in Dallas tonight as we face SMU at 7 p.m. It's then off to AT&T Stadium the following Saturday night for Ohio State. We'll be the prime game on ABC that evening with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Maria Taylor on the call. If you still need tickets, please CLICK HERE.
HOOPS SEASON NEARING
We've had the exciting news of our men's and women's basketball conference schedules being released. The men begin Big 12 play Saturday, Jan. 5, with a 3 p.m. home game against Baylor. We have four possibilities of another Big Monday game. We're in the midst of season-ticket sales and have a phenomenal 96 percent renewal rate for our men's program. Our women open conference play at home Wednesday, Jan. 2, versus West Virginia. Please visit GoFrogs.com to see the full schedules and, if you do not have season tickets, make sure to call our ticket office to get your seats!
PARDON OUR DUST
Besides our win, we hope all of you had a positive experience at last Saturday's home football opener. As you know, and because of your incredible support on the project, we are in the midst of construction on a $100 million premium seating expansion of Amon G. Carter Stadium. It will be ready in time for 2019. We say, "Pardon Our Dust." The construction will create, for one year only, a little extra congestion when entering the stadium on the east side. For that reason and as you saw Saturday, please make plans to arrive early this season and avoid long lines at the east-side gates as kickoff nears. Utilize the west and north gates.
PEPSI PROMOTION
Thanks to our great friends at Pepsi, we hope all of you were also able to take advantage of the vouchers that were distributed for a free 24-ounce Pepsi product at concession stands. It's a new initiative we're proud of for ALL home games this season. Enjoy the first one on us!
GO PURPLE FRIDAY
Our Go Purple Friday campaign has become synonymous with TCU football. We believe it's very important to support those who support us. Please CLICK HERE for a list of corporate partners who provide discounts at area restaurants, retailers and services just for you wearing your TCU purple on Fridays.
RAY RECEIVES TOP HONOR
Moving from the playing fields and courts to the office, I want to extend congratulations to Monica Ray on being selected as the recipient of this year's Chancellor's Award. Monica is in her 13th year as executive assistant to the athletics director. I'm incredibly grateful for everything Monica does to support our athletics program and University as a whole. She truly is the heart and soul of our athletics department.
FIST BUMP
Internally in our department, we will be providing a bimonthly Fist Bump Award to an individual or individuals who go above and beyond their formal job responsibilities to make TCU better. Our recipients last month were Zaina Atyani and Cam Fenton, our newest development associates in the TCU Frog Club. Zaina and Cam transitioned recently from part-time group sales positions in marketing to full-time with the TCU Frog Club. When our soccer season opened Aug. 17, they were everywhere at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium combining their new development roles with that of their past duties in marketing. Thank you both - I love to see this kind of teamwork!
DID YOU KNOW?
The first football game in our history was an 8-6 win over Toby's Business College in 1896. We still owe them a home date, so we're trying to make things work for a return game at their place in the coming years. Stay tuned for ticket information.
Go Frogs!
