Iqbal cards a 71 and Bruner records a pair of eagles
VAIL, Colo. -- Freshman Sabrina Iqbal carded a 1-under-par 71 and Greta Bruner recorded a pair of eagles as TCU concluded play Tuesday with its best round at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
The Horned Frogs' 3-over 291 marked a 12-stroke improvement from Tuesday's second round and was their best score of the tournament. TCU finished eighth in its season-opening event.
"We played better today," TCU women's golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "We have some specific areas we need to work on before our next tournament, but this team is strong and will bounce back."
Iqbal, from San Jose, Calif., had three birdies in a four-hole stretch to close the front nine. She tied for team-best honors with five birdies in her round.
Iqbal lowered her score by nine strokes from Tuesday, while Grace Do's even-par 72 improved her score by eight shots. Behind two birdies, Do was 2 under on the front nine. She finished with four birdies.
Bruner's two eagles came in a four-hole stretch. She also had an eagle Tuesday. Her six career eagles, in just over a season at TCU, tie teammate Annika Clark for fourth on TCU's all-time list. Bruner added two birdies en route to a 73 as she lowered her score each day of the tournament.
Clark had two birdies in recording a 75. Freshman Valeria Pacheco birdied three of her opening four holes en route to five birdies and a 76.
TCU returns to action Oct. 14 at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational in San Antonio.
