FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU, along with Nike, will host the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Sept. 30 - Oct. 2.
It will be the first time in two years that the Horned Frogs will host a tournament. The annual event, which rotates its hosts between TCU and Oregon, was also held at Colonial in 2014 and 2016.
The loaded field includes eight teams ranked in the final Golfstat Top 25 poll last season. Participating teams and their final ranking are No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Florida, 13. Texas, No. 14 Stanford, No. 15 Clemson, No. 17 Duke, No. 21 USC, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 29 Oregon, No. 33 Arizona, No. 36 TCU, No. 56 Georgia, No. 67 Ohio State and No. 73 Washington. Nine of the 15 team field played in last season’s NCAA Championship.
"It's an incredible opportunity for TCU fans, alums and supporters to watch us play in arguably the best collegiate tournament in the country," said Bill Montigel, who enters his 32nd season as head coach.
The Nike Collegiate Invitational is one of 10 regular season tournaments this season for the TCU men’s golf team, many of which are considered to be some of the most challenging in the nation.
For the sixth time in the last seven years, the Horned Frogs will open their season at one of the most beautiful courses in the world, Pebble Beach. The Carmel Cup, started seven years ago by TCU alum Fin Ewing, will take place Aug. 31 - Sept. 2.
TCU will then take part in the first-ever Big 12 Match Play Championship, Oct. 12-14, in Hockley, Texas.
"It's a great opportunity for all the Big 12 schools to play at least five rounds of match play,” said Montigel, who has led TCU to 29 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. “If you’re going to win the NCAA title, you’re going to have to win in match play. This gives us a chance to get experience in that style of play."
The fall schedule will conclude with the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate, Oct. 19 – 21, in Alpharetta, Ga.
For the 28th consecutive season, the Frogs will play in Hawaii at the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Feb. 1-3 to begin the spring season. The Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate will take place Feb. 16-18 in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Frogs will then play in three consecutive tournaments that weren't a part of last season's schedule. TCU will play at the Lake Charles Invitational in Lake Charles, La., March 18 - 19, before playing in The Hayt at the famed Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla., March 31 – April 1. The Frogs will participate in the Tiger Invitational, April 8-9 in Columbia, Mo.
This year's Big 12 Championship will be played April 26-28 at the Old White TPC course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. The NCAA regionals will take place May 12-15 and the NCAA Championship will be held May 25-30 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
