
TCU Takes Series Win On Senior Day

FORT WORTH -- In its final home game of the 2018 season, TCU took an 8-5 victory over West Virginia to give it the series win. A.J. Balta homered, while both Michael Landestoy and Connor Wanhanen each tallied an RBI on senior day.
The Rundown
West Virginia opened the scoring in the second inning. With two in scoring position, Ivan Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to put the Mountaineers up 1-0.
TCU responded in the bottom of the inning as it took advantage of a lead-off double from Michael Landestoy. Zach Humphreys tied the game with an RBI-groundout, but the Mountaineers regained its one-run lead with a lead-off home run from Jimmy Galuski in the third.
TCU struck for a trio of two-out runs to open up a 4-2 lead after three. Conner Shepherd worked a one-out walk and moved to third on a Coby Boulware base hit. An errant throw on a stolen base allowed Shepherd to score to tie the game. A.J. Balta hit a no-doubter to right for a 4-2 lead.
West Virginia pulled within one, 4-3, on a Tyler Doanes inside the park home run in the fourth, but the Frogs had an answer with two insurance runs in the fifth. The Frogs worked five walks in the inning to score the two runs. Humphreys and Connor Wanhanen drove in the runs in the frame.
Again, the Mountaineers fought back to get within one as Doanes doubled in two runs. Sean Wymer (5-3) stranded the tying run at third with his fourth strikeout of the game. He finished the game with six strikeouts in his five innings of work.
Colton Parrish doubled to open the seventh and scored on a Johnny Rizer sacrifice fly and Landestoy worked a bases-loaded walk in the eighth to account for the final score. Cal Coughlin pitched a perfect ninth to secure his third save of the season.

TCU improves to 29-19 overall and 10-10 in Big 12 play with Sunday's victory. The Frogs will hit the road for their final four games of the regular season. First up is a midweek tilt at Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
