The Rundown
The pitching quartet of Russell Smith, Caleb Sloan, Augie Mihlbauer and Cal Coughlin held Abilene Christian to just seven hits. Smith gave up five hits in 4 2/3 innings while walking one and striking out four. Caleb Sloan (2-0) picked up the win in relief after striking out three around a base hit in 2 1/3 innings of work.
TCU took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning. Coby Boulware opened the inning with a base hit. After a walk to Connor Wanhanen, Colton Parrish was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Josh Watson hit a sacrifice fly to give the Frogs the 1-0 lead. A.J. Balta followed with an RBI-single to drive in Wanhanen.
Johnny Rizer's lead-off double in the fourth turned into another run as he scored on a Conner Shepherd sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.
Twice Abilene Christian threatened to get on the board, but each time the Frog pitchers had an answer. In the third, the Wildcats loaded the bases with two outs but Smith got a strikeout to end the inning.
In the fifth a double followed by a bunt single had runners on the corners with nobody out. Smith got a foul out and a strikeout before giving way to Sloan who need just two pitches to get a fly ball to end the inning without a run scoring.
The Frogs put together a two-out rally in the sixth to add its final run of the game. Adam Oviedo started the rally with a base hit and moved to third on a Shepherd hit. Boulware lined a single past a diving second baseman for a 4-0 lead.

ABILENE, Texas – TCU picked up its fourth win in the last five games with a 4-0 blanking of Abilene Christian Tuesday night at Crutcher Scott Field. Four pitchers combined to hold the Wildcats to just seven hits and eight total base runners.
