FORT WORTH, Texas – Riding a 13-match winning streak across singles and doubles, senior Guillermo Nuñez was named Big 12 Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
This marks the first Big 12 weekly honor in the Santiago, Chile native's career and the second this season for the team.
Nuñez proved to be the clincher in doubles and singles for the Horned Frogs in the last week of action. The senior started the week by clinching the doubles point and the final singles point in TCU's 4-3 victory over No. 6 Texas A&M. Nuñez upset No. 25 Valentin Vacherot 6-3, 7-6(5) of the Aggies to improve to 3-0 this season against ranked opponents and then scored a straight-set victory over Hamish Stewart of Tulane to help TCU to a 6-1 victory over the No. 32 Green Waves.
Nuñez paired up with Alex Rybakov in doubles and scored a 6-4 victory over the No. 19 ranked pair from Texas A&M to clinch the doubles point. With the victories, Nuñez is riding a six-match winning streak in singles along with a seven-match winning streak in doubles.
TCU has won six straight matches dating back to March 8 and defeated five straight ranked opponents. The team will have the next week off before returning to action against UT Arlington on Tuesday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
