FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU volleyball freshman élan McCall garnered two more postseason honors on Tuesday afternoon as she was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Southwest Region Freshman of the year and to the AVCA All-Southwest Region team.
"We all love firsts for our program, and this is yet another," head coach Jill Kramer said. "All the hard work our team put in along with élan speaks volumes. I'm anxious to get back at it with our team in January and continue to work on our craft."
McCall becomes the first freshman in program history to earn AVCA All-Southwest Region honors and the first player to earn the Freshman of the Year award. The rookie was already a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team and the All-Big 12 Rookie Team. McCall becomes the 11th player in program history to be honored with an AVCA All-Region award and the fifth under Kramer while at TCU. Players and coaches honored by the AVCA today will be eligible for a spot on the All-America team, which will be revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
"This award isn't just about me, but I think it reflects what my teammates have done for me throughout my first season," McCall said.
The Leander, Texas native has been at the top of the Big 12 and nationally in kills and points since the first week of action. McCall won six Big 12 weekly awards this season which is the most by any player in the conference including five Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors.
