DALLAS --- TCU linebacker Ty Summers has been named a semifinalist for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership on and off the field.
Summers, playing this season as a graduate student, is a two-time All-Big 12 selection and three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. He has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week three times in his career and was the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week after his 23 tackles in a 2015 victory over Baylor.
Summers' 314 career stops rank third among TCU players in the 18-season tenure of head coach Gary Patterson while also placing seventh nationally among active players in a Power 5 program.
A San Antonio native, Summers was the 2017-18 TCU Fellowship of Christian Athletes Bob Lilly Male Athlete of the Year. He is heavily involved in the organization as well as with S.P.A.R.K., a community outreach program organized by TCU football student-athletes. He is also a frequent speaker at area schools.
