Freshman Katie Clark was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Monday.
FORT WORTH, Texas – A career-high weekend resulted in double the honors for freshman Katie Clark as the Arlington, Texas native was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Clark's double honors by the league office is the 10th time in conference history a rookie has won two in one week and the sixth student-athlete to accomplish the feat. This also marks only the second time in TCU volleyball program history more than one freshman has won Rookie of the Week honors in a single season.
"It's been nice to see Katie hit her stride as Big 12 play continues," head coach Jill Kramer said. "Her range and vision have continued to develop on the right side. We were also able to have her attack from the outside and middle all very efficiently and effectively this past week. Our passing and floor defense had good location and Tori (Dilfer) made some great decisions in game management to deliver the ball to Katie at the right time."
Clark scored double-digit kills for the first time this season in back-to-back matches. The freshman recorded a career-high 17 against Texas on Wednesday night before breaking it on Saturday with 20 kills against Texas Tech. Clark hit above .300 in both matches with a .424 hitting clip against Texas and .359 hitting clip against Texas Tech.
The 6-foot-3 hitter ranked in the top 10 of three categories for the week in the Big 12 - hitting percentage (2nd - .359), kills (3rd - 4.11) and points (5th - 4.17). In the match against Texas Tech, TCU had two players (Clark and élan McCall) score 20+ kills in a match for only the seventh time in program history and the first time since October 16, 2004 when Dominika Szabo and Ellen Rehme accomplished the feat against Cincinnati. This is also the first time two players have done it in a match under the direction of Kramer and the first time that both players were freshmen.
TCU will spend the next week on the road with the team first traveling to Waco, Texas, to take on Baylor on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m., before traveling to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Noon.
