
Okonkwo Named to McClain Award Watch List

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU senior Amy Okonkwo has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2019 Katrina McClain Award which recognizes the top power forward in women's college basketball.
Okonkwo is one of 20 players on the watch list for the award which is presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
As a junior the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native was tabbed the 2017-18 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year and to the All-Big 12 Second Team after leading the Horned Frogs with 14.4 points per game in 36 games, all off the bench.
The Selection Committee for the Katrina McClain Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. The annual award, named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, is in its second year.
By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2019 Katrina McClain Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. McClain-Pittman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
Fans will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.
The winner of the 2019 Katrina McClain Power Forward Award will be revealed on an ESPN platform during the 2019 Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida.

The Horned Frogs earned their first top-25 ranking since 2010, while the nine Big 12 regular-season victories equaled their most in program history. TCU also advanced to the Big 12 Championship semifinal round for the first time.
TCU will open its season at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 6, against Duquesne at Ed & Rae Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth.
