FORT WORTH - TCU junior catcher Evan Skoug was named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, while senior right-hander Brian Howard was tabbed the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for their performances in helping TCU sweep Texas this past weekend.
Skoug hit .333 (4-for-12) over the weekend where all four hits went for extra bases (one double and three home runs) in posting a 1.167 slugging percentage. Each of his hits drove in a run as he totaled a team-leading 6 RBIs. In Game 1 against the Longhorns, he hit two home runs and drove in three. His second home run came in the 10th inning, tying the game at 10 after Texas had taken the lead in the top of the inning. In Game 3, his double with two outs in the eighth completed TCU's rally from a 3-0 deficit in the Frogs' 4-3 victory in 10 innings.
Howard (7-3) was outstanding on the mound for the Horned Frogs on Saturday, allowing just one hit over eight innings of work. Only once while he was on the mound did the Longhorns send more than four batters to the plate. He set the side down in order four times in the game and tallied four strikeouts to help clinch the series over the Longhorns.
Skoug and Howard are the sixth and seventh Horned Frogs to earn Big 12 accolades this season. Luken Baker was named the Player of the Week on March 6 and Janczak was selected the Pitcher of the Week on March 20 and April 4. Austen Wade was tabbed Player of the Week on March 27. Nick Lodolo was also honored as the Newcomer of the Week on April 4.
