FORT WORTH, Texas - Riding an eight-match winning streak, the No. 9 TCU men's tennis team returns to action at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center by welcoming No. 26 USF on Monday, April 10.
The Horned Frogs (13-4, 2-0 Big 12) and the Bulls (13-7, 3-1 AAC) will square off at Noon. Admission to the match is free and fans can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., between the doubles and singles portion of the match. There will also be a raffle courtesy of the match sponsors - the Keep It In The Purple Committee, Smoothie King and Salsa Limon.
TCU Notables
After starting the season 2-2, TCU has won 11 of its last 13 matches including a victory in the last eight straight matches. The last time TCU was in action, they scored three top-15 victories by defeating then-No. 8 Texas A&M (4-3), No. 8 Oklahoma State (4-0) and No. 13 Oklahoma (4-0).
Cameron Norrie continues to sit at No. 3 in the latest Oracle/ITA singles poll to lead TCU and is 13-1 on the season and 11-1 against ranked opponents. Alex Rybakov checks in at No. 21 and is riding a team-best 14-match winning streak in singles action with seven wins over ranked foes. Guillermo Nuñez and Jerry Lopez round out the singles rankings at No. 86 and No. 111, respectively.
In doubles action, TCU has won the doubles point in 14 matches this season and has four ranked doubles teams. Nuñez and Rybakov lead the way at No. 23 with a team-best 12 wins this season. Trevor Johnson and Reese Stalder, who have been ranked every week this season, sit at No. 30 while Stalder and Lopez are ranked No. 47. Lopez rounds out the final ranking with Norrie at No. 63.
Scouting the Bulls
USF enters the match having won four of its last five matches including a 4-2 win over AAC rival SMU on Sunday. Sasha Gozun leads the team in the singles poll at No. 48, while Peter Bertran is at No. 105. In the doubles poll, Gozun pairs up with Alberto Barroso-Campos for a No. 68 ranking. Bertran has a team-best 13 singles wins on the season and has won his last four straight matches. The pairing of Barroso and Gozun have a team-best nine doubles wins in dual-match play all coming at the top position.
All-Time Series Records
TCU and USF will be facing off for the sixth time in program history with the Frogs holding the overall advantage at 4-1. The Bulls were able to pick up the victory in the first-ever meeting back in 2002, but TCU has come away with the wins in four straight matches. The match on Monday marks only the second meeting all-time that will be held in Fort Worth with the last time coming in 2015 when the Frogs picked up the 4-3 win.
