The Rundown
TCU took advantage of a trio of walks in the first inning to open up an early lead. Watson put the Frogs on top with a one-out sacrifice fly.
A trio of unearned runs in the fifth helped TCU extend its lead to 4-0. With two on and nobody out, Cam Warner lined a base hit up the middle to drive in Zach Humphreys. A two-out, two-run double from Watson doubled the TCU lead.
UTA got on the board with a solo home run in the sixth, but the Frogs answered back in the top of the seventh. Warner doubled with one out and scored on a two-out double from Luken Baker to restore the four-run lead, 5-1.
The Mavericks climbed back into the game with a solo home run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth, but a running miscue on a ball in the dirt ended the game as Durbin Feltman preserved his eighth save of the season.
Mitchell Traver (1-0) made his return to the mound. In two innings of work, the right-hander allowed two hits and struck out four. Haylen Green tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball in relief. Trey Morris and Sean Wymer also saw action on the mound.
