FORT WORTH, Texas - Coming off a clinch of at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title for the second straight season and riding an 11-match winning streak, the No. 9 TCU men's tennis team wraps-up the regular season at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center by welcoming No. 7 Texas on Saturday, April 22.
The Horned Frogs (16-4, 4-0 Big 12) and the Longhorns (19-6, 2-2 Big 12) will square off at 1 p.m. Admission to the match is free and fans can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., free popcorn from King Korn and free tacos from Salsa Limon between the doubles and singles portion of the match. There will also be a prize court courtesy of the match sponsors -Chicken Express, Smoothie King, Main Event and City Surf Fitness.
TCU Notables
After starting the season 2-2, TCU has won 14 of its last 16 matches including a victory in the last 11 straight matches. The team remains undefeated in Big 12 action and clinched a share of its second consecutive conference title on Wednesday with a 4-1 upset victory over No. 4 Baylor.
Cameron Norrie moved up to No. 2 in the latest Oracle/ITA singles poll to lead TCU and is 15-1 on the season and 13-1 against ranked opponents. Alex Rybakov checks in at No. 27 and is riding a team-best 16-match winning streak in singles action with eight wins over ranked foes. Guillermo Nuñez rounds out the singles rankings at No. 83 with 15 wins this season.
In doubles action, TCU has won the doubles point in 17 matches this season and has four ranked doubles teams. Nuñez and Rybakov lead the way at No. 32 with a team-best 13 wins this season. Trevor Johnson and Reese Stalder, who have been ranked every week this season, sit at No. 33 while Stalder and Jerry Lopez are ranked No. 34. Lopez rounds out the final ranking with Norrie at No. 40.
Scouting the Longhorns
Texas snapped a two-match losing streak in its last outing with a 4-1 victory over Texas Tech at the Caswell Tennis Center. The Longhorns are 2-2 in conference action with a win over the Red Raiders and Oklahoma with losses to Oklahoma State and Baylor. Christian Sigsgaard leads the singles rankings at No. 25 with a 24-14 overall mark with seven wins at the top spot. Harrison Scott checks in at No. 44 with a team-best mark of 26-9, while Yuya Ito sits at No. 48 with 23 wins this season. Leonardo Telles and George Goldhoff have the team's only doubles ranking at No. 78.
All-Time Series Records
TCU and Texas will be facing off for the 48th time in program history with the Longhorns holding the advantage at 28-19 in the series record. The Frogs have won the last two matches between the teams but before that, Texas had won eight straight matches dating back to 1997. Saturday's match marks the 20th match played all-time in Fort Worth with the Longhorns leading in the series record at 12-7. The match will also be the fifth as conference opponents since TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012.
