FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's golf team begins play Friday at the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio.
Conference History
The Horned Frogs have finished first or second in 14 of their last 19 conference tournaments covering four different leagues (WAC, Conference USA, Mountain West and Big 12). TCU was third last year after a runner-up finish at the 2015 Big 12 Championship.
How to Follow
For the third straight year, the Big 12 Championship will be held at the par 72, 6,333-yard Dominion Country Club in San Antonio. TCU's opening-round tee times Friday begin at 9 a.m. The Horned Frogs will be paired with Texas and Texas Tech. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
Back to the Alamo City
TCU is playing in San Antonio for the second time this season and the seventh time in the last four years. The Horned Frogs finished fifth at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational to close the 2016 fall campaign at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The Lineup
TCU will be represented by Emmy Martin, Annika Clark, Kelly McGovern, Brooke McDougald and Tiffany Breitenwischer.
Martin, ranked fifth in the Big 12 and 55th nationally by Golfstat, has a team-best 72.6 stroke average that's on pace to break the TCU single-season record. The junior from Odessa, Fla., has dropped over four strokes from her mark last year (77.0). Martin has shot par or better in nine of her last 15 rounds. She has recorded seven straight top-20 finishes, including six consecutive in the top 13. She is the lone Horned Frog to play in all 10 tournaments this season.
Clark's 74.3 stroke average is second on the team and a career low for the sophomore from Highlands, Texas. She has three top-20 finishes, highlighted by a tie for seventh at the Greenville Regional Preview when the Horned Frogs won the team title.
McGovern, the lone senior in the lineup, is making her third appearance at the Big 12 Championship. The Woodlands, Texas, native has played in all but one tournament over her three-year TCU career. She has a 74.6 stroke average with three of her 11 career top-20 results coming this season.
McDougald has shot below par in four of her last eight rounds, including opening-round 70s in each of the last two tournaments. The sophomore from The Woodlands, Texas, has a 75.2 stroke average.
Breitenwischer will be in her second straight tournament after making her TCU debut at the Silverado Showdown.
The Season
TCU has an 81-48 record on the season with five wins over top-25 teams and 25 victories over top-50 programs. The Horned Frogs are 64-47 versus the top 100.
The Horned Frogs have five top-five finishes in their nine tournaments, including a victory at the Greenville (N.C). Regional Preview in October.
