FORT WORTH, Texas - Riding a nine-match winning streak, the No. 9 TCU men's tennis team continues home action at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center and returns to Big 12 Conference competition by welcoming No. 44 Texas Tech on Thursday, April 13.
The Horned Frogs (14-4, 2-0 Big 12) and the Red Raiders (9-12, 0-2 Big 12) will square off at 5:30 p.m. Admission to the match is free and fans can enjoy free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., between the doubles and singles portion of the match. There will also be a prize court courtesy of the match sponsors -Smoothie King and Main Event.
TCU Notables
After starting the season 2-2, TCU has won 12 of its last 14 matches including a victory in the last nine straight matches. After scoring three top-15 sweeps, the Frogs started this week with its fourth straight sweep of No. 26 USF on Monday.
Cameron Norrie continues to sit at No. 3 in the latest Oracle/ITA singles poll to lead TCU and is 13-1 on the season and 11-1 against ranked opponents. Alex Rybakov checks in at No. 24 and is riding a team-best 15-match winning streak in singles action with seven wins over ranked foes. Guillermo Nuñez and Jerry Lopez round out the singles rankings at No. 83 and No. 121, respectively.
In doubles action, TCU has won the doubles point in 15 matches this season and has four ranked doubles teams. Nuñez and Rybakov lead the way at No. 29 with a team-best 13 wins this season. Trevor Johnson and Reese Stalder, who have been ranked every week this season, sit at No. 33 while Stalder and Lopez are ranked No. 59. Lopez rounds out the final ranking with Norrie at No. 66.
Scouting the Red Raiders
Texas Tech enters the match on a two-match losing streak after dropping its Big 12 openers to Oklahoma State (4-1) and Oklahoma (4-2). Before starting conference action, the Red Raiders had won three straight matches over Indiana (4-3), Memphis (4-1) and Tulsa (4-0). Jolan Cailleau leads the team's singles rankings at No. 33 with eight wins at the No. 1 position and three wins over ranked foes. Bjorn Thomson leads the team with 13 wins on the season and is ranked No. 85. Thomson pairs up with Connor Curry for a No. 12 doubles ranking with a team-best 11 wins, while Thomson is also ranked with Alex Sendegeya at No. 84.
All-Time Series Records
TCU and Texas Tech will be facing off for the 43rd time in program history with the Frogs holding the advantage in the overall series record at 36-6. TCU met up with the Red Raiders twice last season with Texas Tech picking up the 4-2 win in the regular season before the Frogs got the 4-2 win in the Big 12 Championship match. Since becoming conference foes in 2013, the Frogs hold 5-1 advantage. Thursday's match marks the 23rd time the teams will meet up in Fort Worth with TCU winning 20 of the matches played.
