
Lopez Garners Big 12 POW Honor

FORT WORTH, Texas – After going 4-0 in singles and doubles and helping TCU improve its winning streak to six matches, senior Jerry Lopez was honored by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon by earning Big 12 Player of the Week honors.
This marks the first Big 12 weekly honor in the Vallarta, Mexico, native's career. With the win on Monday night over No. 8 Texas A&M, TCU has now won six straight matches and nine of the last 11 matches with two of the wins coming over opponents ranked inside the top-10 of the Oracle/ITA poll
Lopez secured a doubles and singles win in both of TCU's victories over top-25 opponents in the last week to go 4-0 overall. The senior clinched the overall match victory over No. 25 Illinois as he downed Aleks Kovacevic in straight sets last Wednesday. The No. 81 ranked singles player scored a crucial three-set win over Aleksandre Bakshi of Texas A&M to help TCU get the 4-3 upset of the No. 8 Aggies on Monday night. Lopez has a team-best 16 total wins on the season in singles and has won his last four straight matches.
The Vallarta, Mexico native played at the top spot in doubles with Cameron Norrie and easily took two 6-1 victories over pairs from Illinois and Texas A&M to help the Frogs to the doubles point for the 11th and 12th times this season. With the win over the No. 23 ranked Illini pair, Lopez defeated his first ranked opponent in doubles this season as he and Norrie have won three straight doubles matches.
TCU will start Big 12 Conference action by hitting the road to face Oklahoma State on March 31 at 5 p.m., in Stillwater before traveling to Norman to take on Oklahoma on April 2 at 2 p.m.
