
Rifle Sits Second After Day 1 At NCAAs

March 10, 2017 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The TCU women's rifle team sits second, two points off the lead after Day 1 of the NCAA Championships. The Horned Frogs fired a 2,334 in smallbore. Casey Lutz finished third individually.
West Virginia took home the smallbore title after firing a team score of 2,336. Kentucky sits five points off the lead with a score of 2,331. Murray State (2,326) sits fourth followed by Alaska-Fairbanks (2,317), Ohio State (2,311), Nebraska (2,308) and Air Force (2,307).
Shooting in the first relay for the Frogs were Casey Lutz, Rachel Garner and Ariana Grabowski. Garner fired a 589, matching the top score among all shooters. Lutz turned in a solid score of 583, while Grabowski shot a 573.
In the second relay, Mindy Miles and Sally Li put up solid scores. Miles fired a 582 and Li a 580 to lock up second place.
Garner and Lutz both qualified for the eight-person final. Lutz fired a finals score of 442.4 to finish with the bronze medal, while Garner just missed the podium after shooting a 430.8 in the finals.
The NCAA Rifle Championships conclude Saturday with the air rifle competition. The first relay is set for 9:15 a.m.
