
Rifle Set To Defend PRC Title

Feb. 3, 2017 FORT WORTH – The TCU women's rifle team is set to defend its 2016 Patriot Rifle Conference championship title this weekend at Ohio State. The two-day tournament starts Saturday with smallbore and concludes Sunday with air rifle.
Saturday's action will feature a pair of relays starting at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The final will be held at 2 p.m. On Sunday, there will be two air rifle relays starting at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. The final is set for 1 p.m.
Two years ago, the Horned Frogs took home the air rifle championship en route to a second place overall finish. In the inaugural season of the PRC in 2014, TCU finished third.
The match will feature all six of the conference members, five of which are ranked in the top 10 including No. 1 TCU, No. 4 Air Force, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Alaska-Fairbanks and No. 10 Nevada. Also making its way to Columbus will be UTEP.
TCU enters the weekend ranked No. 1. The Frogs (10-0) hold the top two scores in the NCAA this year. They have surpassed the 4,700 point threshold in nine of the 10 matches this season.
The Frogs have four of the top nine smallbore shooters in the nation. Ariana Grabowski's season average of 585.1 is tied for fourth. Casey Lutz sits sixth with an average of 584.1 followed closely by Mindy Miles' 583.5. Rachel Garner sits ninthe with a 583 average. Miles paces the NCAA with a season average of 597 in air rifle. Garner sits eighth nationally with a season average of 593.6.
Air Force boasts a team average of 4687.3. Spencer Cap sits 10th nationally in air rifle, averagine a 593.1. Ryan Jacobs paces the team in smallbore, averaging a 581.5.
Ohio State's top air rifle shooter is Rhiann Travis with a season average of 591.6. Drew Cheezum ranks 13th nationally in smallbore, averaging a score of 581.6. As a team, the Buckeyes are averaging an aggregate score of 4676.8.
Alaska-Fairbanks boasts a team aggregate average of 4675.9. The Nanooks are paced by Sagen Maddalena in both smallbore and air rifle. Her smallbore average of 585.2 and her air rifle average of 595.7 both rank third nationally.
Nevada is paced by Mitchell Van Patten in both air rifle and smallbore with a season average of 591.3 in air rifle and a 581.1 in smallbore. Nevada boasts a 4654 season average.
Bailey Powell paces UTEP in air rifle with a season average of 587.6. Rachel Schoenrock is the Miners' top smallbore shooter at 572.3. UTEP is averaging a 4597 season aggregate average.
