TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson
The win over Baylor...
"Right now, we're going to enjoy it. It's hard to get double-digit wins, especially in the season we just had with as many places we had to go on the road. I'm proud of a lot of guys for stepping up and doing what they needed to do, and the coaching staff did a great job. I'm the one that gets a lot of the credit, but the staff did a great job, and they have all year long."
On playing Oklahoma in Big 12 Championship Game...
"Baker Mayfield is a really good player, and he has the opportunity to win the Heisman Trophy. He's a good football player, and he also has a lot of good players around him. The game won't be at their place; it's 20 minutes down the road. I get an extra day to clear my mind, and we'll start on Oklahoma tomorrow."
On his team's play this year...
"I am really proud of my group. We've played six games on the road and injuries have taken their toll. I relish the chance to win a championship."
On Defensive End Mat Boesen...
"Boesen had 5 1/2 sacks and that's a school record for a ball game. He plays hard. For his size, you have a guy that plays with great leverage and has a high motor."
On the defense...
"It helps when you don't have to blitz to stop people. Our guys are big enough up front to hold up without having to blitz and we can play the plays the offense gives us. If you have to take chances and put guys in one-on-one situations then you give up scores. We haven't had to do that."
On the offense...
"Our offense kept the ball about 12-15 minutes of the second half, and it's hard for people to score if they don't have the ball."
On contract extension...
"We re-upped for six years through 2024, and Kelsey and I grateful for Mr. Chris Del Conte and our Chancellor and our Board of Trustees for having the confidence in us to have us here for a while longer."
TCU Wide Receiver Desmon White
On his touchdown...
"Just get in the end zone. Thought since I had gotten this close, I might as well get the reward for it."
On being a member of the TCU football team...
"It's like a family, the tradition and everyone cares about each other. Everyone works hard."
On playing Oklahoma again...
"We will prepare like any other game, go out there and play TCU football. That's the game we are going to focus on and hopefully win ourselves a Big 12 Championship"
On playing in his last home game...
"I felt good. I just wanted to make the most out of my chances today since it was my last game and I feel like I did that for the most part. We got the win and that's all that matters."
On the game...
"We started off pretty rocky and slow, but once we got into the flow of the game and the tempo going, we started playing like we were capable of playing. I feel we need to feed off of it and take it into next week."
TCU Cornerback Nick Orr
On getting to play another game...
"We were just trying to take it one game at a time. We knew what position we were in and we controlled our own destiny, so that was our main goal"
On winning 10 games...
"It feels good. It's hard to win 10 games, especially in the conference that we play in."
Baylor Head Coach Matt Rhule
Opening Statement...
"First off, congratulations to TCU. I have a lot of respect for the way they came out, especially in the second half, and they found a way to win. I wish them the best against Oklahoma next weekend in the Big 12 Championship game. I think it speaks to the strength of the conference and the strength of the Big 12 that those two teams will represent the conference as we move forward. As I told Coach Patterson, I have a lot of respect for him, the way he runs his program and it should be a great game next week and we are looking forward to it.
"With respect to our team, it was obviously a disappointing end to a disappointing year. As it has been with many games, we proved for long stretches of the game that we can hang in there with a team of that caliber and then a mistake here and a mistake there or a play here or a play there and the game gets away from us. I thought our defense, at times, was stout and unfortunately, especially on the perimeter plays, we had a hard time hanging in there and holding up. And then offensively as the game wore on we had a hard time on third down and we certainly struggled to protect the quarterback. I think Charlie's (Brewer) numbers were 19-of-29 and he had another long one called back. They were pretty special considering the duress he was under and hopefully he will be ok as we are moving forward. It is obviously not the way we would want to play football. We had a chance at half time and to not be able to hang in there in the third and fourth quarter and allow them back in was disappointing but also emblematic of where we are and what we have to do.
"As I told those guys in the locker room, thank the seniors. I thank them for their toughness and I thank them for their leadership and I thank them for hanging in there and everything that they have done. For the young players, I told them we will never be this bad again. We are not where we want to be. There are a lot of young guys out there making a lot of plays. There are also a lot of young guys out there making a lot of mistakes, but starting on Monday we will get to work. While all the guys will be thinking about bowl games and other people are thinking about championships and all that, we will begin the process of building and we will begin the process of pulling the redshirts off the guys who redshirted, getting into the weight room, getting bigger, getting faster, getting stronger and getting tougher. When we are sitting here this time next year, we can't give up six sacks and hope to win a game. We can't not force a turnover and hope to win the game. There is light at the end of the tunnel. This is one of the hardest things these players have been through and it is over now. Now it is time to begin the climb to coming back and playing again next year. We look forward with respect to our seniors and we have a tremendous amount of excitement for hopefully where we are headed."
Baylor Nose Tackle Ira Lewis
On playing last game of the season...
"We wanted to get a win for those seniors, but right now, we need to focus on next season. We can build off what we've done here and get better."
On the safety and opening touchdown...
"It just goes to show that these guys won't quit no matter what, and we came to fight."
On the growth of defense...
"We all now understand our assignments and know what to do. In the beginning, we were hesitant, but now guys understand what they need to do so it should be that much better going forward."
Baylor Running Back Trestan Ebner
On moving the ball...
"It's a good thing to capitalize on going into the offseason. We have a young offense, and a lot of people banged up, but we're not really satisfied."
Baylor Wide Receiver Blake Lynch
On the effect of not playing in a bowl game...
"I think it will help motivate me and my whole team. We were really close in every game but two or three this year and to end up 1-11, we didn't envision that, so it's motivation for next year.
