Last Time Out
TCU trimmed Oklahoma State's lead twice, but OSU answered every run in an 82-67 win at Schollmaier Arena on Wednesday.
TCU shot a season-low 34 percent and also allowed Oklahoma State to shoot 54 percent. The Cowgirls outrebounded TCU, 50-22, and had more offensive rebounds (14) than the Frogs had defensive rebounds (13).
AJ Alix led TCU with 24 points, her second straight game over 20 points. She connected on six 3-pointers and played all 40 minutes. Jada Butts and Amy Okonkwo joined her in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Oklahoma State pulled away in the first quarter, but in both the second and third quarters TCU cut the lead down to one possession. On each occasion, OSU used a 9-0 run to pull back ahead by double digits.
Scouting Texas
Texas is one of three teams to start Big 12 play with three straight wins. Overall, the Longhorns have won seven straight games, a streak that started with a win over Tennessee on Dec. 11.
The Longhorns rank fifth in the NCAA with a +13.8 rebounding margin, led by Kelsey Lang who averages 8.8 boards per game. Brooke McCarty, a Preseason All-Big 12 selection, leads Texas in scoring (13.5) and assists (3.5) this season. Ariel Atkins is not far behind in scoring (13.0)
The Series
Texas leads the all-time series, 37-2, including a 7-2 mark since TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012-13. Texas was 28-0 against TCU in the 14 seasons the two spent together in the Southwest Conference.
TCU's last win came in 2014-15 in Raegan Pebley's first game against the Longhorns. Since then Texas has won four straight games.
Five Points
1) Despite a season-low 31 percent from deep on Wednesday, TCU still leads the NCAA at 42.0 percent from deep as a team this season.
2) The Frogs have made 10 3-pointers in each of their last two games. Game-by-game statistics are available beginning with the 1999 season, and since then the Frogs have never made 10 or more 3-pointers in three straight games.
3) TCU is averaging 18.5 assists per game, ranking second in the Big 12 and 13th in the NCAA. TCU is assisting on 70.4 percent of its makes, the highest mark in the Big 12.
4) AJ Alix has scored 23 and 24 points in TCU's last two games, respectively. The last Frog to score 20-plus in back-to-back games was Alix herself in the first and second round of last season's WNIT. The last Frog to do so in three straight games was Zahna Medley (program's all-time leading scorer) in the final two games of 2013-14 and the first game of 2014-15.
5) The Frogs are in the midst of a very tough stretch in which they face four ranked teams in their first five Big 12 games. TCU already hosted No. 12 West Virginia, and then traveled to No. 24 Oklahoma before hosting Oklahoma State. After Saturday's game at Texas, TCU will travel to No. 2 Baylor on Wednesday.
Up Next
