FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior Kenrich Williams is patiently waiting to return to the hardwood this season after sitting out this past year with an injury.
When TCU steps onto the court for its season-opener against the University of Saint Thomas on Nov. 11, Williams will lace up his sneakers and play in a live game for the first time in 1 year, 7 months and 29 days. The Waco native, who hasn't seen live game action in a total of 609 days, last played in a 64-59 loss to No. 9 Kansas on March 12, 2015 in Kansas City.
With the season rapidly approaching, Williams, who scored in double-figures 15 times in 2014-15, is thankful to return to the place he knows all to well and show fans what they missed last season.
"It means a lot to finally be able to step back on the court this season, knowing the game means so much to me," said Williams. "Having to sit out and watch from the sidelines last season was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. It's a blessing to be back playing again."
When broken down, one can see the impact the Waco native could have this season on the hardwood for first-year head coach Jamie Dixon.
Williams led the Frogs in rebounding in nine games as a sophomore, while also tallying a double-double in three games, including a 10 point, 16 board outing versus Texas Tech in late February, which helped the Purple and White continue a three-game home winning streak versus the likes of No. 21 Oklahoma State, K-State and the Red Raiders.
Williams, who closed the 2014-15 regular-season, scoring a career-high 17 points, while grabbing nine boards versus No. 17 Iowa State, recorded eight double-digit outings against conference foes. Simply put, he was at his best against conference opponents as all but one of his season-highs came against Big 12 foes during his first year in the program. He wrapped-up league play ranking No. 7 overall in the league in rebounding after averaging 6.8 rebounds a contest and No. 3 in offensive rebounds with 2.78 offensive boards a game. On the season, Williams was even better, finishing No. 5 overall in the Big 12 in rebounds (6.7) and No. 3 in offensive rebounds (2.82), respectively.
