FORT WORTH -- The TCU men's golf program and head coach Bill Montigel announced their 2016-17 schedule on Thursday.
The Horned Frogs will be looking to make their 28th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and will play a challenging schedule of 10 regular-season tournaments in hopes of keeping that streak alive.
TCU's season begins on September 2 at Pebble Beach, arguably one of the world's most famous courses. The three-day Carmel Cup will be a great early-season preview of the Big 12 as Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech will be among the teams competing with TCU.
"Not only is the tournament at Pebble Beach a good preview of the Big 12 for us," Montigel said. "But our kids really look forward to playing at Pebble Beach every year."
Just 10 days after playing at Pebble Beach, the home of five U.S. Opens, the Frogs will take on The Olympic Club, which has also hosted five U.S. Opens.
Following the two tournaments in California, TCU will play host to the Nike Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club from October 2-4. That tournament will feature 12 top-25 teams, including defending national champion Oregon. Eleven of the 15 teams coming to Colonial played in last year's NCAA Championships, including Texas, USC, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma who all advanced to match play.
TCU's next tournament will be just as tough when the Frogs travel to Georgia for the U.S. Collegiate Championship. Last year's field featured seven of the nation's top 10 teams at the time it was played.
"The U.S. Collegiate is probably the strongest field of any tournament in the country, other than the NCAA Championships," Montigel said. "With that tournament coming just after the Nike Collegiate at Colonial, our team is going to be tested early in the season."
The Frogs' spring season begins with a trip to Hawaii for the Amer Ari Invitational at the Waikoloa Kings' Course.
Other highlights on TCU's spring schedule include a trip across the Metroplex to TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas, the site of the Byron Nelson and a trip to Chambers Bay in Washington, site of the 2015 U.S. Open.
The Frogs return seven golfers from last season's team that tied for 15th at the NCAA Championships. Included is the squad's lone senior in 2016-17, All-American Chelso Barrett.
Many of the Frogs had busy summer schedules, including Barrett and sophomore Turner MacLean who recently play in the U.S. Amateur. Sophomore Stefano Mazzoli had the highlight of the summer for the Frogs as he was the only current college golfer to play at the Open Championship.
