EUGENE, Ore. -- The TCU men's 4x100-meter relay team qualified for the finals at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. on Wednesday.
The quartet of junior Raymond Bozmans, senior Sam Watts, junior Malik Summers and senior Ronnie Baker clocked in with a season-best time of 38.91, placing sixth in the semifinals. They earned their spot in Friday's finals as they were the first to qualify on time. The top two teams from each heat plus the next two best times moved on to the next round.
After anchoring the men's relay, Baker logged a season-best time in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 10.09 seconds. Despite recording the sixth-fastest time of the day, Baker missed the cut for the finals as the three athletes who qualified with slower times placed in the top two of their respective heats. Baker's time is tied for the fastest mark to not make the final in meet history.
Watts, a native of London, England, recorded a time of 21.09 in the 200 meters. Watts and Baker will compete in the 4x100 relay finals at 7:32 p.m. CT on Friday.
Freshman Fellan McGuigan's second attempt mark of 197 feet 8 inches (60.25 meters) helped him place 11th in the first flight of the hammer throw.
Seniors Brianna McGhee and Megan Smith will represent TCU in the women's events on Thursday. McGhee will compete in the 100-meter hurdle semifinals at 7:32 p.m. CT, while Smith will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. CT for the shot put.
