FORT WORTH –Incoming TCU women's basketball freshman Amber Ramirez, already a member of the 3x3 U18 World Championship Team, has also been named to the U18 National Team, as announced by USA Basketball this week.
Ramirez, a McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand Classic All-American, will begin her competition with the U.S. this week when she captains the 3x3 U18 World Championship Team at the 2016 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships for Women in Astana, Kazakhstan.
"What a magnificent opportunity for Amber to represent the USA," TCU head coach Raegan Pebley said. "We know that this is something that she has worked very hard for, and she values her selection immensely. We are excited to watch her and her teammates compete."
Ramirez's U.S. team will compete in Group B and begin play on Thursday with games against the Netherlands and Poland at 5:30 a.m. CT and 9 a.m. CT, respectively. Group play will continue on Saturday for the Americans with the knockout stage of the tournament scheduled to be complete on Sunday.
Group B also includes the host Kazakhstan and Italy. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout round. For complete coverage of the event, or to watch live streams of each game, visit FIBA.com/World/3x3U18/2016.
Following the tournament in Kazakhstan, the San Antonio native will join her TCU teammates in Fort Worth for a few weeks before beginning U18 National Team training camp in early July. She and the team will then travel to Valdivia, Chile for the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women that take place July 13-17.
Ramirez will come to TCU as one of the most decorated recruits in program history. In addition to her place on two USA Basketball national teams and her high-profile All-American honors, Ramirez ranks as the 12th best player in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz, 11th best overall by ProspectsNation.com and second at her position.
