FORT WORTH -- Brianna McGhee of women's track and Sam Watts of men's track have been named TCU's Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week based on impressive performances at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship last week.McGhee began her outing by breaking the school record in the 100-meter hurdles for the fourth time this season. Her prelim time of 12.88 is the fastest in TCU history and is ranked the sixth fastest in the NCAA this year. McGhee did not stop there, though. She battled through a slight headwind in the finals en route to a 13.14 finish and her first Big 12 gold medal.
Watts proved to be a powerful asset to the team throughout the conference meet as no one competed more than the senior from London, England. Watts opened the day with a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay alongside junior Raymond Bozmans, junior Malik Summers and freshman Darrion Flowers. The quartet combined for a time of 39.41. Watts then went on to compete against fellow teammate Ronnie Baker in the 100 meters. In just his second 100 meter performance of the year, he took home sixth place at 10.54. Watts completed his extensive day in the 200 meters, where he earned silver behind a time of 20.69 (-0.8).
Between the two athletes of the week, TCU garnered four medals and 29 points.
Up next, the Horned Frogs will head to Lawrence, Kan. for the NCAA Division I West Regional on May 26-28 where they will compete to earn a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
