FORT WORTH -- Chantz Stewart of women's equestrian and Sam Watts of men's track have been named TCU's Scholar-Athletes of the Month for their outstanding performances throughout April.
Stewart helped TCU record runner-up accolades at the NCEA National Championships in Waco. The senior, who was a Second-Team Academic All-America honoree by the NCEA and a member of the prestigious La Hacienda Academic Honor Roll, went 3-1 at nationals, including 2-0 on the final day of competition.
The Big 12 Rider of the Year earned First-Team All-America recognition in Reining during the month of April and is the first student-athlete in school history to pick up First-Team accolades in the discipline. She closed the season with a 15-3 overall record after going 4-2 in postseason play.
Watts took home two pieces of hardware to start out the month at the Texas Relays in Austin as he helped TCU place first in the 4x100 relay with the NCAA's fourth-fastest time at 39.08. Watts and the Frogs earned silver in the 4x400 relay at 3:06.22. At the Tom Jones Memorial, the senior recorded a regional-qualifying time of 20.68 in the 200 meters. Watts capped off his productive month with a first-place prelim finish in the 4x400 relay at the Drake Relays.
The TCU track and field teams return to action this Friday through Sunday as they host the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the Lowdon Track & Field Complex.
