FORT WORTH, Texas - For the fourth straight match, the TCU men's tennis team is set to take on a top 25 opponent as the Horned Frogs will travel to Austin, Texas to take on No. 18 Texas on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m., at the Polo Tennis Club.
Due to the weather forecast, there is a possibility that the match between the Horned Frogs (20-2, 2-0 Big 12) and the Longhorns (17-8, 1-2 Big 12) could be moved indoors to the Weller Indoor Tennis Facility and be played at 2:30 p.m., due to the Texas women's tennis match that must take place first.
TCU Notables
TCU is currently riding multiple streaks with the Frogs having won their last 15 straight matches and the team has also posted 27 consecutive victories at home on the Bernard J. 'Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts. TCU started Big 12 play 2-0 for the first time in program history with a 4-3 win over No. 9 Oklahoma and a 4-0 sweep of No. 12 Oklahoma State.
In the newest Oracle/ITA individual rankings, TCU has three ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team. Cameron Norrie is at No. 5 in this week's rankings and has a 18-6 overall record, including an 12-3 mark in dual match action and a 13-6 record against ranked foes. Alex Rybakov sits at No. 20 with a 15-5 overall record and 13-4 mark in dual match play. Guillermo Nuñez rounds out the singles rankings at No. 62 with the sophomore posting 21 wins thus far in the season.
Cameron Norrie and Alex Rybakov continued their winning streak in doubles, as the duo are up to seven consecutive victories this year and remain undefeated at 7-0. Hudson Blake and Reese Stalder sit at No. 69 in the latest doubles poll with the pair playing mainly at the No. 1 position with 10 wins posted in dual match play.
Scouting the Longhorns
Texas has scored wins in 13 of its last 16 matches and is one of five Big 12 schools that is ranked inside the Oracle/ITA top 20. The Longhorns have won two of their last four matches after stringing together four straight wins from March 26 to April 2.
Texas has one ranked singles player in No. 56 George Goldhoff who has put together 10 wins this season. Two other players have picked up over 20 wins so far this season with Michael Riechmann leading the way with a 25-8 record, while Harrison Scott has put together a 22-10 mark this season.
Riechmann pairs up with Adrian Ortiz-Ruiz for the only Longhorn doubles ranking of No. 59. The duo have scored nine wins this season in dual matches all at the No. 1 position.
All-Time Series
TCU and Texas will be facing each other for the 47th time in program history on Saturday afternoon, with the Longhorns holding the advantage in the series record at 28-18. Texas had won eight straight matches dating back to 1997 until the Frogs scored a 4-0 win at home on senior day last season. The match in Austin marks the 18th time the teams have playing there with Texas holding an 11-6 advantage. The last time TCU picked up a win on the road over Texas was in 1992.
