TCU is one of 15 teams in the 2016 field that includes Alabama, Arizona State, California, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, UNLV and USC. Texas took home the 2015 title and Robby Shelton of Alabama won individual honors at 15-under par.
TCU will use the lineup of Chelso Barrett, Giulio Castagnara, Paul Barjon, Sarosh Adi and Stefano Mazzoli for the event. TCU is coming off a fourth place finish at the eighth-annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate presented by Cleveland Golf, at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Barrett finished second in the event, marking the second time in three tournaments that Barrett has finished in the top two on the individual leaderboard after taking second at the Connecticut Cup to end the fall campaign as part of TCU's team championship at the event. The Frogs finished fourth overall thanks to Barrett and Adi's top 10 finishes. Adi finished eighth in the tournament after his final round score of 75 knocked him down the leaderboard after placing in the top three for much of the tournament. Adi's opening round score of 67 was TCU's best of the week.
Castagnara, who participated as an individual at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and finished in a tie for 9th overall, is currently ranked 21st in the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings in the race to join Team Europe this summer. The top six golfers from the final ranking on April 15 from both the United States and Europe shall be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup at Formby Golf Club June 24-26. Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a negative bonus for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.
