FORT WORTH, Texas - After a weekend off, the TCU women's tennis team returns home for a four-match home stand starting with a match-up with No. 49 SMU on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m., at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (2-2) and the Mustangs (7-0) will square off on the Bernard J. 'Tut' Bartzen Varsity Courts with free admission to all fans and free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., in between the doubles and singles portion of the match.
TCU Notables
TCU has been off for a week and is looking to bounce back after dropping a 7-0 decision to then-No. 14 Stanford two weeks ago. In their last competition at home, the Frogs were able to sweep Middle Tennessee State, 7-0.
The Frogs have one individual ranking with Seda Arantekin and Caroline Wegner checking in at the duo's highest ranked of the season at No. 16 in the Oracle/ITA doubles poll. The pair has 11 wins thus far in the season and has one victory over a ranked foe.
Arantekin, Wegner and Marie Norris all lead the way in singles action in dual matches with a 2-1 record. Arantekin is a perfect 2-0 at the No. 5 position, while Wegner is undefeated on courts three and four. Norris has played the top two spots all season long and is 1-1 on court one and 1-0 on court two.
Scouting the Mustangs
SMU moved from No. 72 in last week's Oracle/ITA poll to No. 49 and is undefeated on the season at 7-0. The Mustangs were also off last weekend, but scored wins over then-No. 55 Oklahoma (4-3) and Nevada (6-1) in their last two matches. The match on Thursday will mark the first away match of the season for SMU.
SMU has one ranked player in senior Hristina Dishkova who checks in at No. 58 in the singles poll. Dishkova is 7-0 on the season after sitting out the fall with all her wins coming at the No. 1 position. Macie Elliott and Mary Wright lead the way with 10 wins on the season with both players playing at the bottom of the lineup.
In doubles, the pair of Ana Perez-Lopez and Dasha Sharapova are 4-0 in dual matches at the No. 2 position, while Dishkova and partner Vaszilisza Bulgakova at 5-1 at the No. 1 position.
All-Time Series Records
TCU and SMU are facing off for the 51st time in program history, with the Frogs holding the advantage at 30-20 in the series meetings. The Frogs have won the last four straight meetings, with SMU last picking up a win in 2011. TCU has picked up the win in the last two home matches played against the Mustangs and this will be the 23rd time the teams will face-off in Fort Worth.
