Last Time Out
TCU was locked into a battle for three quarters, but eventually its 3-point shooting made up for some sloppy play in a 73-47 win over Butler on Wednesday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena.
TCU hit 11-of-23 from long range in front of a crowd of 3,769 that was mostly Fort Worth ISD students. Those 3-pointers, along with a great second half defensive effort, allowed the Frogs to overcome 20 turnovers. TCU outscored Butler 28-8 in the fourth quarter of a game that was very close for three quarters.
Amber Ramirez led the Frogs with 19 points, including 5-of-8 from deep. The freshman hit double figures for the first time this season, and hit a 3-pointer for the sixth time in as many games.
Scouting LSU
LSU has played a tough schedule early with its only losses coming to No. 3 UConn and undefeated Kansas State.
LSU last played on Saturday, Nov. 26, when it closed out the Paradise Jam with a last-second win over NC State. LSU beat UTEP in its opening game in the Virgin Islands, but lost to K-State in its second game.
Chloe Jackson, an NC State transfer, leads the Tigers in scoring (12.4), rebounding (6.0) and assists (3.0). All-SEC guard Raigyne Moncrief averages 11.6 points per game and hit the game-winning 3-pointer against NC State.
The Series
LSU leads the all-time series over TCU, 5-0, but the two sides haven't met since 2007 when No. 5 LSU won 73-54 in Baton Rouge. TCU is 0-2 all-time against LSU in Baton Rouge with the other meeting coming in 1990.
Five Points
1) The Frogs are shooting 44.3 percent from long range as a team this season, the third best mark in the NCAA. The Frogs are averaging 9.0 3-pointers per game, tops in the Big 12 and 16th in the NCAA.
2) Sophomore transfer Amy Okonkwo is TCU's leading scorer at 11.8 points per game, doing so off the bench in all six games. She leads the Big 12 in field goal percentage (73.0, 27-of-37) and is 7-of-10 from long range, that after going 0-of-5 in all of 2014-15 as a freshman at USC.
3) AJ Alix is second on the team in scoring with 11.3 points per game. She has scored in double-figures in four straight games and hit 15 3-pointers in that span. Alix leads the Frogs in assists and ranks sixth in the Big 12 with 4.2 per game.
4) The Frogs have a very balanced scoring attack as five different players average over 9.5 points per game. Okonkwo (11.8), Alix (11.3), Jada Butts (9.8), Ramirez (9.8) and Jordan Moore (9.6) are all at or near double-figures.
5) The two previous SEC/Big 12 Challenges featured two teams from each league with the conferences splitting the games each season.
