SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- TCU junior Emmy Martin carded an even-par 72 to lead the 29th-ranked Horned Frogs in first-round action Sunday at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational.
TCU, coming off a championship at the Greenville (N.C.) Regional Preview, is in 10th place after a 10-over-par 298.
"We are disappointed in our start out of the box," TCU women's golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "However, we finished well with a lot of red numbers on the back. We are ready for a great day tomorrow."
Martin, tied for 15th individually, had a pair of birdies to go 2 under on the back nine. She is seven strokes behind leader Alana Uriell of Arkansas, who recorded a 7-under 65.
Brooke Graebe also had two birdies en route to a 74 for the Horned Frogs. The sophomore from Yorba Linda, Calif., is tied for 25th.
Fellow TCU sophomores Annika Clark and Sabina Pena added 76s. Clark birdied two of her final seven holes. Pena eagled the par 5, 474-yard seventh hole. She later added three consecutive birdies on the back nine.
Kelly McGovern totaled a team-best five birdies for the Horned Frogs.
With a 4-under 284, Mississippi State holds a one-stroke advantage over No. 27 Tennessee for the team lead.
