FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU men's tennis team will compete in one final tune-up before the official start of the spring season by heading to Fort Myers, Fla., to take part in the Three Oak Shootout from Jan. 15-17 at the Three Oaks Tennis Center hosted by Illinois.
The No. 3 ranked Horned Frogs will begin the competition by facing off against players from No. 15 USF on Friday at Noon, CDT. The tournament will continue on Saturday with No. 27 Mississippi State at 9 a.m., CDT, before concluding on Sunday with No. 6 Illinois at 9 a.m., CDT. The individual player with the most points via wins will be awarded "Most Outstanding Player" by the tournament.
TCU is coming off one of its best seasons in program history in 2015, as the Frogs advanced to their fourth Final Four in program history. The team boasts four ranked singles players including returning All-American Cameron Norrie at No. 4. Guillermo Nuñez sits at No. 24, while Trevor Johnson (No. 73) and Jerry Lopez (No. 109) round out the ranked players.
In fall action, TCU was able to advance players to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships for the second straight season. Norrie won the inaugural Oracle/ITA Masters in September, while Nuñez was a quarterfinalist at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships.
The Frogs have five returners from the Final Four squad and welcome four freshmen and one transfer to the team. Class of 2015 No. 1 recruit Alex Rybakov along with fellow signee Eduardo Nava will be making their collegiate debuts at the tournament after enrolling in classes in January.
A full recap will be available at GoFrogs.com following the completion of competition each day.
